Anyone Ordering Things From Family Dollar On Uber Eats Are Being Flat Out Financially Irresponsible

NY Post- Family Dollar is joining the ranks of retailers available on Uber Eats, as the discount chain prepares for a major transition in ownership and widespread store closures.
Uber announced this week that Family Dollar is being added to its Uber Eats platform, expanding the delivery app’s growing portfolio of retail partners that allow customers to order groceries and household items directly to their door.
The move comes on the heels of Dollar Tree’s decision to sell the Family Dollar brand to private equity firms Brigade Capital Management and Macellum Capital Management for $1 billion.
The sale marks a significant markdown from the $8.5 billion Dollar Tree spent to acquire Family Dollar in 2015 after a fierce bidding war with Dollar General.
Dollar Tree has already begun closing hundreds of Family Dollar locations — approximately 600 stores shuttered in the first half of 2024, with another 370 Family Dollar stores and 30 Dollar Tree stores expected to close over the next few years.
The company has also announced price hikes
When they said you can get everything on one of these delivery apps, boy did they mean it. Literally everything. Now Dollar Tree is in the game. Everyone and everything … welcome to 2025! Now, Dollar Tree 100% has it's benefits of being able to get items at the drop of a hat. Having grown up in a house where my siblings and I waited until the last night to do a project, leading to the absolute rage of our parents racing to a Michaels in hopes of finding cotton balls, or popsicle sticks, or replace the cartridges in the glue gun, I can tell you first hand that finding obscure items in a few minutes would be ideal for a ton of families.
However, I have to warn people that while it's great to be able to get things in a few minutes, a place like Dollar Tree is straight up being financially irresponsible when you factor in the fees for the item. Now, I am 100% not being cheap here. I get that the fees, and delivery costs are how places like this stay afloat. I also get that much like a bar, this is why you pay a more expensive price for things. You don't want to get up from the couch, just fire up the app. Everyone wins. But with Dollar Tree, you cannot be ordering things, or 1 thing when you factor in these fees.
I went and put in 1 item for delivery. I know it's rare you order just 1 item on one of these apps, but I put myself in the shoes of someone needing just that 1 thing for an art project. Below is the cost breakdown.

I mean come on. Chances are if these places are willing to deliver to you, it means they are within a drivable distance to your house. Suck it up, put on your flip flops and get in the car. Paying 12x the cost of 1 item is INSANE ! Also once you get to the store, you might even see something that fits your needs better. Let's say you needed paper plates, you agree to settle on plain white plates, but when you get to the aisle, you realize that ones with a design or different color or size actually fit the project better. Boom. Absolutely no two ways about it, if you have a car you must get up and go drive instead of using the app. Now if you live with no car … you're fucked.Enjoy the fees !
