RIP To ECW Legend Sabu

Sad news in the wrestling world today - Sabu has passed away.

If you were a wrestling fan in the 90s, or even know the slightest thing about a company called ECW - you probably remember Sabu. He was the "Suicidal, Homicidal, Genocidal, Death-Defying Maniac" who carried a steel chair with him everywhere he went, constantly springboarding off the top rope into crazy legdrops or wrapping himself into a barbed wire web of some sort every time you saw him.

Truthfully, he never had the best reputation among his peers or promoters - but his influence on wrestling truly cannot be ignored. I'm sure some old timers will roll their eyes at that statement, but ECW obviously changed the game for the business (and hardcore wrestling in particular) and I'm not sure anybody encapsulated the "ECW style" more than Sabu. He sacrificed his body time and time again for the sake of an insane spot, right up until the end.

Sabu just had his final match this past WrestleMania weekend, and it was uh - it was something! Joey Janela really did his best to make it something special; the build, the video packages, the WM Weekend Spring Break booking were all great - but to be honest, the match almost felt like something we shouldn't have been watching. I'm not so sure Sabu was sober during it and he took some ridiculous "bumps" like going face first into a barbed wire bed and cracking his head open on the concrete floor after being tossed out of the ring....

….but Janela was able to salvage what he could in attempt to give Sabu the ending he felt his career deserved - and a lot of fans really loved getting the chance to give him his flowers. Like I said - his influence in undeniable.
