What's The Best Cover Song In History?
Yesterday, my pal John wrote about the best re-watchable movie. My answer for that question was the Princess Bride. Fantastic movie that has a little bit of action, humor, love, and mystery. It has it all, folks. Anybody wanna peanut?
The question of today is, what’s the best cover song? Obviously, my first reaction was to say Fergie’s rendition of the national anthem.
But, I’ve had some time to think about it so I’m gonna go a different reaction. Now, I love Lollipop by my friends Framing Hanley. “She’s so sweet that she wants to lick to lick the wrapper” is a troublesome lyric. We talkin lickin after sex? Cum stuff? Was Lil Wayne using a homophone of rapper? Who knows but it’s enough to not have Lollipop as the winner because I dont wanna be offensive.
So then what cover is the best? Is it John Mayer’s cover of All Along The Watchtower?
No, because you’d have to argue that John’s was better than Dave Matthews and Jimi Hendrix and that’s not a can of worms that I want to fish with.
Is it the vocal wonder Celine Dion from her live performance on March 25th, 2002 in front of Oprah’s studio audience? Many are people are saying this is a front-runner, but I wannna explore it a little further.

Is it Adam Lambert’s Mad World from the top 8 on American Idol? Pres thinks so. I’m not so sure. It’s a fantastic song though. There’s no question about that.
That leads me to my pick. Between John Mayer, Celine Dion, and Adam Lambert, we’ve walked this journey with some fantastic artists. But, yaknowwhat? I think I nailed it from the jump. It’s Fergie singing our national anthem. Incredible. Take it away, Vocal Jesus.
